Shhhhhhhh . . . it's Christmas morning

It's Christmas morning.  It's quiet and I like that.  I liked it when my kids were little and Christmas morning was anything but quiet, too.  Only one of our sons is with us this year but that change is the nature of a family as it grows.  Julia and I each have a surviving parent who will be with us later today. That, too, is part of the changing of the seasons of our lives.

Your Christmas morning may be quite different than mine.  Yours may be filled with squeals of kids or grandkids.  I'm looking forward to watching and hearing grandkids myself one day.  I now know why my mom would get up early on Christmas morning, drive to my house and just sit in the driveway until she saw some activity in the house.  She wanted to experience the squeals of Christmas morning after her own season of quiet, the time after your kids grow up and before you get a second chance to experience Christmas through the eyes of a child again.

I hope your Christmas is quiet or noisy or exotic or whatever you want it to be.  But more than anything else, I hope that at the end of the day all of us will remember that what we celebrate is the occasion of the first step in God's plan to redeem us.

Merry Christmas!
