Sharing the bounty

I took this picture of a fig on the fig tree in my yard today.  It's one of many that this tree will produce this season and one of many that the birds will eat.  Every once in a while the birds leave one for me to enjoy but most of time they're one step ahead of me.  I watch the figs carefully as they begin to ripen but somehow the birds are watching just a little more carefully, I suppose.  I tried the net strategy a few years ago but without much success so I decided just to be patient.  The tree is now over 7 feet tall and nearly as wide so I'm hoping that this will be the year that they'll be enough figs for the birds and for me, too.
I planted blueberries this year because Julia likes them and asked me to plant some.  They're already looking great and have an ample amount of fruit on them.  The birds may take a liking to the blueberries, too, but that will be between Julia and the birds.  I don't have a dog in that fight.  It wasn't my intention that the blueberries become a diversion from the figs but if that's how it turns out, then so be it.  I'll just assume it's the will of God.  I'm focusing my attention of the figs and hoping that this will be the year that there's enough for all of us.
